Terry Barton, the former U.S. Forest Service employee who started the 2002 Hayman fire, was resentenced today by a state district court judge to 15 years probation.

Barton pleaded guilty to starting the 2002 fire that scorched 138,000 acres, destroyed 133 homes and forced more than 8,000 people to leave their homes.

Initially she had been sentenced to 6 years of incarceration in her state court case, which would have followed her 6 years of federal jail time. The Court of Appeals threw out that sentence and ordered her to be re-sentenced.
